In support of activities in the wider Triangle area, WHUP will be a media sponsor of the 2016 First Night Raleigh event. WHUP listeners can look forward to hearing more details on the station in the next few weeks.
Presented by Artsplosure, First Night Raleigh is the largest family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration in North Carolina. Now coming into its 24th year, First Night Raleigh has been attended by approximately 40,000 people in recent years and offers close to 100 arts activities and performances in downtown Raleigh for people of all ages.
Festivities start at 2 pm and run until midnight, when fireworks and the acorn drop bring in the New Year.
Headliners this year are the Celtic rock band Scythian, who will perform starting at 10:30 pm on the main stage at City Plaza.
