WHUP continues to lead the radio pack with not one, not two, but three live-music special sessions this week! On Wednesday, August 16, the two core members of Banjo Nickaru & Western Scooches, Betina Hershey and Nick Russo, will make a pilgrimage to Hillsborough on their way to Tennessee for a set at 4:00 pm. The New York-based duo play a full-spectrum and highly original style of Americana that infuses their songwriting with elements of jazz, country, folk, blues and beyond.
On Friday WHUP goes back-to-back with East Texas singer-songwriter and road warrior Keith Rea at 3:00 pm followed by Asheville old-time and Americana duo Hoot & Holler at 4:00. Keith infuses his songs with the grit of dusty back alleys and the lost-highway fumes of hot asphalt and gasoline that can only come from years of touring and playing small clubs from coast to coast. Guitarist Mark Kilianski and fiddler Amy Alvey aka Hoot & Holler move freely between styles in their homegrown blend of original music with an old-time heart and a freeform head. Now settled in Asheville after an itinerant journey across America, Mark and Amy show off their wide-ranging influences in every song.
If you can’t listen to the live sessions in real time, don’t forget you can always tune in to our special session on demand!
