Keeping Time is a two-hour weekly show exploring music’s fluid chronology. Host Charlie Shelton-Ormond will go up and down a historical arc to show how different artists are linked across time, and how different musical styles have influenced one another throughout history. How has early roots music evolved over a century to influence modern hip-hop? What’s the connection between the mesmerizing electro-soul of Blood Orange and the ambient soundscapes of Brian Eno? Through these linear leaps, Keeping Time will cascade between genres to contextualize the sonic foundations of songs across decades. The program will also feature NC-based musicians of past and present to highlight the state’s role in shaping music over the years. Tune in and ride the timelines every Tuesday from 5-7 pm.
