Sotol (Dasylirion texanum) is a plant that grows in rocky limestone habitats in the Trans-Pecos. I ran across it on a recent trip to West Texas and was struck by its long sharp spiny leaves, sunny green color and gigantic beige stalks that set out strange yellow flowers. I am told they are drought and heat-tolerant, love a ton of sun and you can even make liquor from them. Much like the Sotol plant, the women featured in this radio show are surprising, sharp, beautiful and maybe even a little dangerous.
